4 BRINGS THE ROCK
The Boston scenesters were out in force for an incredible show at
the Middle
East last night. In our lifetime vol. 2
artists Radio 4 played an amazing
set opening up for British phenoms Clinic, who were sporting their
usual
scrubs on stage. Radio 4 won the crowd over easily - and now head
off for a
long US tour. Catch the dates on the tour

THE KICKOVERS BECOME PART OF THE CURRICULUM!
We received this letter from Gail:
Hello,
Okay, I have something to show you. In geometry class, we were given
a
similarity project. The assignment was to construct an enlarged
or reduced
model of any object using the same ratio. So after much contemplating
about
which object I should use, I've decided to build an enlarged (2:1)
model of
my Kickover's "Osaka" cd case. That way I could show off
my KO pride and
drawing the multi-colored dots on the cover would be easy to copy.
:) So,
the pictures of it are here
http://www.liquid2k.net/kickover/kogeometryproject.html
Just to let you know, I got a "B" on the assignment. Unfortunately,
the
width of my model wasn't "mathematically correct". Go
figure.Thanks,
gail

FENWAY AT THE WBCN RIVER RAVE 2002
A long glorious day of bro-ing down interspersed with great music
and beer is how we will remember the 2002 River Rave. An early arrival
got us to the new $300 million pleasure palace in time for The Kickovers
interview with Shred and Juanita. From there we attempted to commandeer
golf carts and eventually made our way to the Pit stage where Rumble
winners The Gentlemen were rocking the early crowd. The Kickovers
made their CMGI Field debut a memorable one performing a set highlighted
by the BCN favorite "Fake in Love" and their ripping new
songs "Girlfriend" and "Dirty Hands." After
a signing at the Strawberries booth, it was back to backstage for
the bro-down. First order of business was diffusing the Kickovers-Strokes
feud, which was done successfully. Over the course of the afternoon,
The Kickovers bro'd down with Jimmy Eat World, Sum 41, who I shared
a nice van ride with, Jack Black, Ben MF Cooley, new Patriots free
safety Rob Kelly, The Damn Personals, The
Gentlemen, Oedipus, and Kay Hanley. In addition Fenway Recordings
associate Billy Barrett bro'd down with Papa Roach. Musically my
highlights were Sum 41, Ash, who are featured on in our lifetime
vol. 1, and the most devastating Strokes, who sounded amazing through
the huge
PA and played a couple of great new songs. CMGI Field is truly state
of the art and Fenway is anxiously awaiting the September 9 showdown
with the Steelers.

BOSTON GLOBE ON CONSONANT
Consonant at 608: Mission of Burma guitarist Clint
Conley marked a triumphant return with his other band, Consonant,
which combined a punk roar with an angular pop sensibility that
continually challenged a packed house of fans. Consonant sounded
like a synthesis of the best of Boston's rock underground from the
past 25 years. Conley even opened with ''Red Clouds,'' a song he
wrote for onetime local club fixtures Busted Statues. There was
nothing busted about Consonant, however. A superb set, and not enough
can be said about Conley's agile mastery of the Rickenbacker guitar
sound. Consonant is at the Paradise June 21 with Buffalo Tom. -

CONSONANT GETS 'PICK
OF THE WEEK' IN THE BOSTON GLOBE
"Even before his much-acclaimed reunion
with Mission of Burma, bassist Clint Conley had begun baby-stepping
back into music. Early mornings alone with a guitar evolved into
sessions at Somerville's Q
Division studio." [more]
